Following in Professor Willow’s footsteps, each of the legendary leaders of Pokemon Go’s teams – Mystic, Instinct, and Valor – have been given updated looks… but a mysterious bug makes them look like nightmares.
When players first embark on their Pokemon Go journeys, they must choose between three teams. The player’s choice doesn’t affect the overall gameplay much, aside from which gyms they can staff and occasional worldwide team events.
But here players will meet Spark, Candela and Blanche; the leaders of each team. And since the game’s release in 2016, these sneakers look exactly the same – clothes and all.
However, when the Season of Light began in September 2022, Professor Willow returned from his brief hiatus in the Ultra Wormhole with his own new look. And a month later, the three team leaders seem to have followed in his footsteps.
Pokemon Go Team Leader Glitch is nightmare fuel
Discovered by the remarkable Pokemon Go data mining group PokeMiner, the new styles for the team leaders have been added to the game. However, for some players, they were not implemented correctly.
In a tweet with the caption, “The models for the team leaders have been updated and are a little…”, PokeMiners show off the new models, but they’ve distorted them thanks to a visual bug.
Players responded to the tweet with their own photos and videos showing the fearsome team leaders. One player even called them a “nightmare,” while others said they looked like PlayStation 1 NPCs.
Fortunately, this problem does not affect every trainer. There were several comments from people who were relieved to see that the leaders of “Nightmare Fuel” hadn’t made it into their game.
With October on the horizon, this model bug feels perfect for the spooky season. But it’s safe to say that this wasn’t how Niantic intended the team leaders to show off their new outfits.
