All Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Gym Leaders Return confirmed

It has been confirmed that Gym Leaders will return in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. So here’s everything we know about the opponents you’ll be facing so far, including Grusha and Brassius.

The upcoming Pokemon Scarlet and Violet games will feature “three big stories” to work your way through, one of which requires you to defeat all Gym Leaders and become a Pokemon Champion.

Beating gym leaders is, of course, a hallmark of the franchise, but Pokemon Scarlet and Violet will put a twist on that by allowing you to tackle each arena in any order, reflecting the open-world gameplay on offer.

Ahead of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet release for Nintendo Switch in November 2022, we’ve compiled all available information on the game’s gym ladders below.

All Gym Leaders in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet

Here are all of the Gym Leaders revealed for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet so far:

Brassius (Artazon Gym)

Brassius is a Specialist in grass species who runs the gym in Artazon, a city full of flowers and art. He uses a Smoliv and a Terrastalized Sudowoodo (which he calls Truleewoodo) on his gym team.

According to his biography, Brassius “treats Pokémon battles as works of art and is always in search of artistic quality, using his Gym Test to assess a trainer’s aesthetic sensibilities”.

Grusha (Gym Icing)

Grusha is a Specialist in ice types who runs the Glaseado Gym. He used to be a professional snowboarder, but now he works as a full-time gym manager with the new Pokémon Cetitan as his partner.

According to his bio, Grusha is “usually cool, but when things heat up he shows the emotions he normally suppresses”. It is unknown what his level is or what Pokemon he uses.

As you can see, only one Pokemon Scarlet & Violet Gym Leader has been confirmed so far. There are eight gym leaders the gameso we’ll update this page as more of these are revealed.

How do gyms work in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet?

As with most mainline Pokémon games, you must defeat all eight gym leaders in the open-world region of Paldea and collect their gym badges before attempting to become a champion.

A big change from previous Pokémon games is that you can tackle the eight gym ladders in any order, so you can jump right into the most difficult one at the very beginning of your journey.

Once you’ve earned all eight arena badges, you can take part in a special test called Champion Rating. Pass this difficult challenge and earn the coveted Champion rank.
